Salamander broilers have been used in restaurants for many many years. The gas burners are essentially heating a series of ceramic (usually honeycomed in design) squares which in turn distribute the heat very evenly and intensely. Since the unit has an open front, care around children must be taken as well as removing any combustible materials above the unit. The broiling results will amaze you. Not exactly chargrilling, but very fast broiling and finishing of dishes such as melting cheese for onion soup, Mexican dishes, omlettes etc.
For mounting on wall above a 48" range, this unit comes with a stainless steel utility shelf to finish at 48" width.
